ARC’TERYX FOOTWEAR STUDIO:
MAKER SPACE
PORTLAND, OR
Upon completion of their studio space, we were approached by the team at Arc’teryx to expand their in-house prototyping capabilities by collaborating on a dedicated maker space. Inspired by old-world cobblers and the beautifully pragmatic spaces they would craft in, we worked to create a vernacular that fits within the footwear studio, yet is decidedly unique.
Pulling cues from the nearby product showcase space, the exterior “shoe box” geometry is subtly off-kilter, adding a dynamic backdrop to the adjacent workspaces. On the interior, the casework gives way to equipment and display, keenly programmed to support the hands-on testing of shoe construction, detailing, and materiality. The finish palette is kept natural and honest, elevated with clean details and playful fixturing.
